WHO
WE ARE....
We
are a volunteer group of local residents, business people, and commercial
property owners who are committed to improving the quality of life in
Mt.
Greenwood
by strengthening its commercial strips.
A
BRIEF HISTORY....
The
Local Development Corporation was established in December 1994 in response to
concerns expressed to local elected officials by business owners, residents and
community leaders. Activists worried about the lack of investment and general
deterioration of the Mt. Greenwood Business District.
Early
efforts at the LRC included a survey of business owners and production of
materials to market the area. Through the efforts of 19th Ward Alderman Virginia
A. Rugai, city funding was obtained to hire a professional team of planners. A
Business District Improvement Plan for 111th Street and Kedzie Ave. was
developed in 1997 with urban specialists Camiros. Ltd.
Areas
are suggested for - "new development emphasis"-, rehabilitation,
improved parking and other amenities. These enhancements wikk strengthen the
business district and create an environment better suited to the needs of
today's resident's. Board members and staff work continuously toward the
implementation of suggestions contained in this plan.
