WINTER / SPRING 2009

SBIF

The Small Business Improvement Fund opened officially January 16th, following a second presentation by SomerCor 504’s John Paulun and Derek Walvoord that morning at the Mt. Greenwood Branch Library.

This program provides percentage rebates to owners and tenants for a wide array of improvements to commercial property.  It is reported to be the deciding factor for many stakeholders with deferred maintenance issues.

These investments help to retain the value of the property, while improving aesthetic appeal for customers.

Typical work that applicants are planning includes tuckpointing, replacing windows and doors, repairing roofs and driveways, installing ornamental and privacy fences around parking areas and modernizing signage.

Don’t delay.  By mid-March, about half of the $465,000 available was committed. Obtain an application today at http://www.somercor.com/sbif_form.htm.  Application packages are also available at the LRC office or call us at 773-881-0622.

Signature Corner

All legislative matters, including vacation of a portion of Sawyer Avenue and adjacent alleys, the sale of a city owned parking lot to developers, and approval of the Planned Development (project) are complete.

Developers are finishing up the process of obtaining building permits.  We’re confident that a groundbreaking isn’t far off.  Watch our website for updates.  We’re told the actual construction phase is a mere five months start to finish.  It’s going to happen and it’s going to be great!  And, yes, before the snow flies Fall ‘09.

Fat Tommy Relocates

You can still find those famous Tommy Dogs & pork chop sandwiches in the neighborhood.  They’re just a few blocks east at 3031 W. 111th St .  Watch for the Grand Opening and expanded seating.
